In the fall of 2014 I was looking for an older trained dog to start some young Plotts with. I have had an interest in the Leopard breed for years but never had actually seen one. I kept monitoring the UKC classified site and the following ad appeared on November 1st: "Merle Coon Dog For Sale–We have decided to sale Merle. Merle is a great coon dog with a big mouth. He is an own son of Johnny Reb and Pretty Girl. Not only is he a good coon dog, he is beautiful and would be a great stud dog!! He is 8 years old, but the way he hunts and acts you would think he is a 5 year old." A couple of references were listed and I called the first–Randy McDill. In our conversation Randy said, “Mister, Merle is a coon dog. He’s not the kind you sell.” That was all I needed to hear. I bought Caneridge Blue Merle that day and picked him up a week later. At that time I was ignorant about leopards and their bloodlines, breeders, etc. I just wanted a coondog. I felt so good about my conversation with Randy that I didn't call the second reference, John Williams (even though I learned he was the one who raised and trained Merle). I just mailed the check. Never been sorry. Couldn't have found a better dog for this time of my life. Enjoyed the 2014-2015 season. It was great watching and hearing this old dog tree coon after coon that the other dogs couldn't trail or open on.
I liked Merle so much I decided it was time for a breed change and sold the young Plotts and went with Leopards.
Write, Call or E-mail if we can be of help in any way.
